How we minimise waste
Unused offcut shapes, and materials are donated to Work and Play Scrap Store as well as local schools so that the children can use them for their crafts
We also array our cutting on sheets to best utilise the material, and prevent unnecessary waste
Where possible, we recycle unusable offcut metals and woods to minimise land fill waste
Zero Waste Project
We cut some some perforated steel on our waterjet for Good Waste. The steel was reclaimed from a store fit-out and from the shapes we cut, they created these amazing lamps. Their project was in collaboration with Selfridges, in which they were 'examining the renowned department store's own waste from brand concessions and visual merchandising.'
Sustainable Materials
Clients often ask for more eco friendly options:
We can replace your Perspex with Greencast which is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable acrylic. Greencast plastic laser cuts perfectly and engraves the same as normal Perspex.
We provide FSC certified plywood and MDF
A product can be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which means it meets the "gold standard" ethical production. The wood is harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable.
Bamboo options
We can source 8x4ft sheets of bamboo in various thicknesses, which can be CNC cut to shape - we have used it on products and wardrobes. It also engraves well, making beautiful menus and portfolios.
Bamboo requires less energy to nurture, in the right conditions, it can grow to 3 feet tall in 24 hours, this speedy growth meaning it can grow to its full size in 3-4 months. Bamboo restrains soil erosion, extends wildlife refuge and manufactures a wholesome food source for both humans and wildlife. It is strong, durable and biodegradable
